Alfred Moulson & Nina Julie Cookes
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 11:07 BST (UK) »
I'm researching my husband's family tree and I'm stuck on his grandfather, so I've decided to try and find out more about his grandmother instead (both deceased).  As she was actually married to someone else, I thought I'd try and find out more about her life.  After trying trawling through records on Ancestry for her husband Alfred I can't find anything on him, which I find quite odd.  I do have their marriage certificate though:

My husband's paternal grandmother:
Nina Julie COOKES, dob: 1926
105 Minnow Street, Monmouth
Her Father: Henry John COOKES (no occupation)

Nina's husband (not my husband's paternal grandfather):
Alfred MOULSON dob approx 1915
7 Wyesham Avenue, Monmouth.
His occupation: Private no. 40763?8 in the 1st Gloucestershire Regiment
His Father: James MOULSON - a Bricklayer in a shipbuilding yard

Can anyone find anything out about Alfred for me please, or anything about the addresses documented..?  I'm wondering perhaps he may have died fairly young, or lived/travelled abroad perhaps..?  The reason for the interest in him is because his wife Nina (my husband's paternal grandmother) met and subsequently had 5 children with another man who she never married - my husband's paternal grandfather Albert Buckley (and he's an enigma it would seem too!!).

Any help would be welcome!

Thank you.

are you sure about Nina's date of birth?  There's a death reg in 1997 in Hillingdon, Middlesex of a Nina Jullie Moulson which gives her dob as 13 Nov 1926 and a birth registered :-

Nina J Cookes dec qtr 1926 Bournemouth vol 2b pg 945 mother's maiden name Jones

which ties in with this marriage

Henry J Cookes june qtr 1912 Warwick vol 6d pg 1266 to Lily V Jones

and there's a possible death reg

Henry J Cookes 67 sep qtr 1947 Chepstow vol 8c pg 144

The address at marriage would be Monnow Street, the river Monnow flows through Monmouth

I'm wondering about Alfred's date of birth.

There's an Alfred MOULSON born 1915 Chorlton with mmn PRESTON.
Parents would seem to be a James MOULSON and Florence PRESTON.

Might be worth a look.

Maureen

I was just looking at that couple in 1911 Maureen  ;D  The entry is worth looking at because of James occupation.

I got back to it through this possible death
March qtr 1973
Alfred Moulson
date of birth     22JY1915

Yes I wondered about Nina's death too, but from showing the family the copy of the death certificate that I ordered they thought it was right, because she did live in Hillingdon when she died. The age and therefore estimated year of birth on the marriage certificate was different, so I'm not sure what to make of that  ???

at marriage she would have been 18, so would have been under age & would have needed parental consent. Possibly a little fib to get around the problem. Was the marriage by banns?
