Does anyone have any information please about Hannah Cherry whose birth in the 1871 England census is given as 1848 in Glasgow?  Thanks in anticipation

Have just replied to your query about Blaney Cherry but I suspect that you mean the 1861 census? If so, Hannah was born in Glasgow c1845 and father Blaney c1811 Ireland- both dates before birth registration in those countries.

Hi, looked at the 1851 census in Scotland but could not find Hannah. I also checked births in Glasgow between 1835-1850 with no luck. I could not find her father Blaney in Irish records nor is he in the 1851 Scottish census, only 2 Bernards and a Benjamin.
But, when checking the childrens births I found this..

Birth:
Richard Blayney Cherry
born 16 Dec & bap 26 Dec 1852
St George, Hulme, Lancashire
parents: Blaney Cherry & Mary Vickerstaff
*a note on cert says the parents were married in 1837 in Nottingham
**also the family was living in the Cavalry Barracks as officers' servants

also, I looked at the 1871 England census and found the family still in Nottingham. Mary Cherry, Blaney's wife has died. I think she may hae died in the register quarter March 1870. Anyway, I discovered that Blaney's 1st name is William. I went back to Irish records and found this...

Birth:
William Cherry
bap: 1 January 1814
Loughrea, co Galway
Roman Catholic
father: ------- Cherry
mother: (not listed)
* note says father adult convert.

Hope something helps, Kim

Here's a link to the 1852 birth-

Next generation? Arthur Blayney Cherry, son of Richard Vickerstaff Cherry, bapt 1882

1878 marriage of Richard Vickerstaff Cherry where his father listed as William Blayney Cherry-

Mother's maiden name not given so this 1846 baptism may be a red herring-

Death of Blaney Cherry in 1878-
