Origins of Thomas Crosby and Mary Smith (Walton on the Hill, c1720s/30s)
« on: Wednesday 07 October 15 12:57 BST (UK) »
Hi!

Thomas Crosby and Mary Smith married at Walton on the Hill in 1757. They had children baptised at West Derby - Ellen, Robert, William, Thomas, Mary, Peggy and another Thomas - between 1760 and 1775.

Is anyone able to trace Thomas or Mary's origins...? I've drawn a blank so far...

Thanks Garstonite! I'm hoping to see if anyone of that name was baptised at Walton, tho. Will have to resort to microfilm I suppose!

If you haven't already done so I would suggest you need to see the actual marriage entry in the parish register. I presume you mean St Mary Walton on the Hill. The marriage entry entry may have useful additions such as Thomas' place of abode. You could look to see there is a marriage bond or allegation which would give his place of bode.

I would suggest you do the same for a couple of the children's baptism to see if they give the place the family actually lived.

You could also look to see if Thomas left a will which again may give clues to his origin. Also any other Crosby wills that might say useful things such as' my son Thomas of .......'

Hope the above may help.
