Hi Groom

Many thanks for that information, it was interesting to see that Charles was born in Manuden in 1819, and the only one of his grandchildren John Edward, the line I am researching was also born in Manuden in 1898.

I now need to find someone with access to the Manuden PR's tom find his baptism c1819 and the names of his parents.

Kind Regar4ds

I'm not sure, I couldn't find Charles on there. Have a look, you might have more luck.

There is a Charles Gayler baptized 13 July 1829 son of William and Mary Gayler, Labourer at Manuden.
If he is 32 in 1861 makes his birth year 1829.
other entries for children of William and Mary are: Harvey George bap 13 July 1823 born 12 May 1823
Emily bap 20 November 1825 born 13 September 1825, father listed as a Blacksmith.
1841 census of Braughin Herts
William Gayler 45 Blacksmith
Mary 40
Emily 15
George 15
Charles 12
None were born in Herts.
1851 census Great Munden Herts
William 54 born Newport Essex, Blacksmith
Mary 52 wife, born Manuden Essex
George 27, son Blacksmith born Manuden Essex (bap Harvey George)
Eliza 24 Dau in law born Great Munden Herts

Hi Amondg

Thanks so very much for that information, the name variation seems to happen quite a bit during the 19thc. There seems to have been at least 3 generations of Blacksmiths in the family.

I now need to find the baptism and parents of William born c1797 in Newport.Essex

God Bless

Parish Records are on line from the Essex Record Office for a fee.
1 day 10 pounds, 1 week 20, 1 month 30, 6 months 60, 1 year 85.
There is also a wealth of other information so your tree will have more than born, married, occupation, had children, died.
