Collins family (McClaine/Collins) Falkirk 1940s.
« on: Friday 09 October 15 15:40 BST (UK) »
Im making this inquiry on behalf of a friend in Dublin Ireland who is trying to find info on her Scottish links through her fathers family, she knows little or nothing apart from what is set out below.

Alexander Collins was believed born Falkirk on 14 December 1943, he would often call himself Alexander McClaine Collins (possibly spelled McClean).his mothers name may have been Ann-Marie.

There were apprx 13 children in the family and the oldest Sister Isabella looked after the family when the Parents died.

Alexander is thought to have left home aged 14, at some stage he spent some time in the British army, possibly a Scottish regt.
He is believed to have deserted the Army and made his way to Ireland possibly mid to late 1960s or early 1970s, he died on the 13-1-1995.

Sandy or Jock as he was in a relationship but never married, he had family and its his daughter who is seeking information on who her Paternal Grandparents may have been.

Perhaps someone may possibly link the McClane- Collins name.?
Thank You.

I have found a possible link to the above family but am unsure as to how relevant it may be.

I have found the death on 7th June 1884 of Elizabeth McGrouther nee Collins of Thornhill Rd Falkirk Scotland aged 48.
Elizabeth was born in 1836 in Polmont Stirling Scotland.
Parents Thomas Collins and Martha McLean.

Early account gives her siblings as
 Alexander Collins
 Janet
 Robert
 Thomas
 James
 Agnes
 Margaret

Elizabeth also has a daughter Martha McLean Collins who was born 1864.
Im wondering is it possible that my Alexander McLean Collins born in Falkirk in 1943 may be related, possibly grandson ?

Hi ,

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ has a possible birth in 1943 , but it's Grangemouth rather than Falkirk.

The certificate would need to be ordered.

Soory Ev ,just checked seems that Grangemouth is near enough to Falkirk to make this birth a real possibilty.
My friend who is looking for leads to her Dads family would have little or no knowledge of the area, she is only going on scraps of info from older family members which may have been distorted over the decades.

You would need to order the certificate to find out that information , I'm just looking at the index.

There are 14 male births between 1941 and 1946 in Scotland for Alex* Collins , only 1 is in Stirling(shire).
That one has the middle name as Mclea(as much as can be entered).
