Hoxne and Syleham Parish Registers - BOYCE
« on: Monday 12 October 15 09:15 BST (UK) »
I have Peter BOYCE and Ann nee STOLLERY as the parents of Richard 1814 and Peter 1816. Peter died an infant. No other Chr found in on line records.

In the Ipswich Journal dated 28th September 1839 a Peter BOYCE of Hoxne was awarded a premium for having brought 9 children up without parochial assistance. The mother's name(s) of the children are not mentioned.

The Peter who married Ann in 1797 was 37 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to have had a previous wife and children.

There is also time for the Peter who was awarded the premium to have been the son or nephew of 'my' Peter, but if so I have not found him any Census or similar. There is only 1 Peter BOYCE (spelled as BOICE) in Suffolk in the 1841 census, and he is the one married to Ann. Ann was 20 years younger, and was 17 when they married.

The BOYCE people in the 1851 who have a birth place in or near Hoxne, and who could be one of the children of the Peter in the paper are - Charles b 1809 in Syleham, John b 1798 in Syleham, Jonathan b 1810 Syleham, Richard b 1813 (my ancestor, Chr found in IGI St Peter's and St Pauls, Hoxne 5th Jun 1814. He states place of birth is Syleham in the various census)  I assume any female children would have married.

Thanks

Thanks Bunnygirl. I had already checked off the BOYCE people against my datebase as I have NBI on disk, but when I saw the BOICE two, I thought you had uncovered a previous wife for Peter. Unfortunately Peter was with Ann already in 1841 census, so my glee was, sadly, short lived.

Hi elricks,

To add to "bunnygirl's" list, here are some baptisms all in Hoxne;

1-11-1807 Charles Boyce]
25-4-1802 George     "    ]
21-7-1799 Henry       "    ]
30-10-1803 John     "      ]    all children of  Peter & Ann
22-11-1810     "         "     ]
2-10-1805 Louis       "     ]
28-9-1800 Martha    "     ]
18-3-1798 Mary Ann "     ]

So far as marriages go, there is in Beccles St.Michael;
11-12-1757 Peter Boyce to Elizabeth Rackham

Could this Peter be the father of Peter Boyce  who married Ann Stollery in 1797 in Hoxne? and also the one who was buried in 1845 0f Syleham aged 84.
