John HALLETT, clockmaker of Lyme Regis, born c.1783, died c.1842
« on: Monday 12 October 15 15:34 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find information about John Hallett's parents, any siblings, his marriage (I think he married a Susan Hayward) and how he came to be a clockmaker.
Any thoughts welcome!

Welcome!
Dorset BMD has John Hallet baptisms 1783/4 in Chideock, Durweston, Longbredy and Whitechurch.  Do you know the likely parish?

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

In 1812 the Oxford University and City Herald talks about a Jacob Martin who was sentenced to hard labour for..  stealing silver watch in the house of John Hallett, jun. of Lyme-Regis, watch-maker. As he is called 'junior' that suggests his father was also a John.

Thank you for your welcome.
I have a John Hallett born on 25th May 1783 and baptised on 22nd June 1783 to parents John and Mary in England, Select Births and Christenings.  This was in Beaminster where I know that there were clockmakers, but I cannot see the actual record on Ancestry to see if his father's profession is given.  Unfortunately, I have no idea about a baptismal parish.
