Hi

Not finding much but have found info which indicates the following.

John (bn c1816) and Luke Bilcliff (c1824) were the children of John Bilcliff and Hannah Reed  (marriage 1815).

Both parents died within a year of each other ( Hannah 1840, John ~ March 1841) ~ both children together on 1841 census.

What is interesting is that this could have been a second marriage for John Bilcliff, the first being to the Elizabeth Richardson mentioned prior,  so it could be that the Catherine and Elizabeth mentioned before were half siblings of John and Luke.

I have checked dates etc. and it does seem to fit

The Elizabeth Biltcliff that married James Prudhoe was born Winlaton c1816 ~ and is probably a relation somehow but not sure where she fits in.

Just an aside to remember when looking for these folks - sometimes Bilcliff is spelled Bilcleugh or similar.

Hi
Thank you Claire, Janis, sgf28 really appreciate your efforts/thoughts, looks like something happened to Joseph Hathaway, father of John, either he did a runner or died.
I suppose the marriage cert. for John and Jane will say whether the grooms father was deceased, I will order a copy and see what turns up.
Any more thoughts, please keep me posted.

Hi
Further to my post regarding John HATHAWAY, I have now received his marriage certificate for 1853 to Jane WHITE and in it his father is named, as previously stated, Joseph HATHAWAY, occupation Nail Maker and he is not marked as deceased.
So did some digging around in the 1851 census and came up with:-

Aukland HO 107/2385/61/33
Joseph HATHAWAY     lodger     married     male     52     b.1799     sailmaker     b. Birmingham Warwickshire.

When I looked at the original census image the "sailmaker" is clearly wrong and should read nailmaker!
Looking at the way the enumerator has written scholar in other places, the 'S' is clearly different.
So my conclusion at the moment is that this could certainly be Joseph, father of John.
Does this make sense, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

regards
Will

Hi,
These may be meant to be HATHAWAY in 1841 there is a Joseph of about the right age not born in Co. Durham

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQBC-9TM.

If you can see the original you could check Joseph's occupation.
