Help with faded writing please bit of a long shot I think.
« on: Friday 23 October 15 18:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I wonder if anyone could possibly make out the child's name born to Paddy and Mrs Doyle. Its from the Parish Register for Oylgate  Co. Wexford Ireland1817
Here is link to page its about 3/4 way down on faded left hand page Sept/Oct I cant read the month either but its after August.

http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634106#page/32/mode/1up

I don't know for sure that its one of mine as there were I think 3 Paddy/ Patt/ Patrick Doyles having children at that time in Oylgate but I would like to research.

Using the round buttons at the top to darken and invert and comparing with other names on the page I'm inclined towards Francis or Frances.

Thanks Sinan,

I too played around with the adjustments but all I could say is that after the Capital letter all the others are the same size, so I see how you see Francis/ Frances.
As I said there were unfortunately 3 Patrick/Paddy/ Patt Doyles having children at that time. I have lots of gaps in the family as I know it. The priest didn't help much he had a habit of regularly writing 'Mrs. Doyle' or whatever for mother, he is also inconsistent wit use of the form of Patrick.

I will use Francis to research see if I can tie him.

Thanks again.

I may be wrong but the words before Paddy look like "Daugh of"?

Edit....I see it says Doyle  ::)

Actually I think you may be right. Thomas is a name that occurs regularly among other Doyles. I don't have any Francis. There is for example a Thomas 8 June 1814 of John Doyle and it does look very similar.

Well done Craggagh. Thanks very much.

There is a Thomas a little further down the page, which made me think it was Francis as I didn't think it had a h but hey maybe it does.
It sure is a tough one.

I thought it might be James. Are the sponsors any help in deciding the right family.

Yep your are right it could be James. I have a lot of work to do looking at not only the couples but as you said the sponsors. As with many Irish families back then not enough variety in the names. I will keep at it. Thanks for your opinion.
