Lusitania victim
« on: Friday 23 October 15 19:44 BST (UK) »
I have placed this request on the Wales notice board given the fact that the gentleman's music career includes performing in Barmouth.

On behalf of his elderly  grandson, I am seeking information about the career of an entertainer named Edward Carr Jones. Edward was the pianist in the orchestra of the Lusitania when she was torpedoed and sank on 7th May 1915. His body was never found.

Edward was born with the name Edward Jones in Hanley / Stoke around 1876. He later added the name Carr. Information on the internet show that Edward undertook several trips from Liverpool to New York on the Carmania and the Lusitania. In the 1901 census he describes himself as a "professor of music" which was probably an affectation.

In an obituary in the Barmouth and County Advertiser dated the 20th May 1915, Edward was described as a member of a group of musicians named the Royal Magnets. I have found a photograph of the group but Edward's grandson has no idea which one was his grandfather.
I wonder if there is anyone who can throw any light on the musical career of Edward Carr Jones.

Hi, No I haven't William. I wasn't sure where to post the request but will give it a go if this post doesn't come up with anything. Regards Peewee
