As the 1939 register for england & wales has been published,  is there any hope for this to happen for or in northern ireland

You would have to ask PRONI about that. Meanwhile you can make a Freedom of Information request to them for a particular entry, and the last time I looked there was no charge for the service.

a shame there wasn't one for the republic of Ireland, would be very useful to my research
