Evans or Byrne
« on: Tuesday 03 November 15 16:12 GMT (UK) »
When she married Thomas Dewis in 1832 the parish record shows she was a spinster and her name was Elizabeth EVANS. On the 1838 birth certificate of her last child she is named nee Evans.
On the marriage certificate for her second marriage she records her father as being Angel BYRNE, not EVANS which I find confusing.

I have looked for ages without finding a parish baptism record for her but given the Evans name, is very difficult and again no luck with finding an Elizabeth Byrne.

Any suggestions why there is this difference in her surname?

Thanks

I see that one of the witnesses to the marriage was A Byrne.  Maybe her mother married Angel after she was born

ADDED Thomas & Elizabeth Dewis were witnesses to the 1835 wedding of Angel Byrne & Esther White. Angel was a bachelor.  It might be worth comparing signatures on the two marriages

Hi, it all indicates to me that Evans was her mother's maiden name and that her mother and Angel Byrne were not married at the time of Elizabeth's birth - maybe they didn't even marry afterwards but she knew her reputed father.

Any clues as to her birth whereabouts and date?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. Elizabeths death certificate indicates she was born in 1812 and therefore Angel Byrne who married in 1835 to Esther White could not be her father but could be her brother or step brother??

I have found a record for a marriage of an Aungier Byrne to  a Mary Walker in 1815 and another Aungier marriage in 1816 to a Martha Braybrook, so she maybe their child?

Thanks for the info on the death of an Aungier in1838 as I had not seen that before. Elizabeth must have been close to the Byrne family given they are shown as being present on the marriage record.

Regarding A Byrnes signature I will start to look for the parish record to compare, I have Elizabeth marriage record and the signature is A Byrne, not a first name.

Thanks again.

I have found a record for a marriage of an
Aungier Byrne to  a Mary Walker in 1815

A possible baptism of a child

Sarah Ann Byrne 14 May 1826 St Mary Whitechapel Tower Hamlets
Aungier occ Gunsmith & Mary, abode Gower’s Place
Parish Registers

Elizabeths death certificate indicates she was born in 1812 and therefore
Angel Byrne who married in 1835 to Esther White could not be her father but could be her brother or step brother??

A baptism for one of Angel & Esther children

Aungier Joseph Byrne born 12 May 1846
31 Jan 1849 St George in the East Tower Hamlet
Aungier  occ gun maker & Esther
abode 1 Fieldgate St Whitechapel
Parish Registers

ADDED - other baptisms

Esther Bridget Buryn 9 Jan 1839 St George in the East
