Nelsons Land Elba Street St Quivox

I have family who stayed at Nelsons Land Elba Street St Quivox in the 1861 census,  Does anyone know where this land was and why it was called Nelsons land.
My ancestors were Nelsons and lived in stquivox in the late 1890's .

Does the 1861 image definitely show Land - not Lane?

It says Nelson L Elba Street. Could be land or Lane I presume. However I'm sure I saw Land somewhere but this could just be a transcribing error. Would still like to find out where it was. On the census 1861 there was also a Hyslop L and Ferguson L mentioned ...

Hi,
Elba St, Ayr (St Quivox) exists and can be viewed on Streetview.  However the present properties appear to date from the early fifties, up to the late 70's, with all the old turn of the last century housing having been demolished.
The 1855 Ayr Town plan (Ref http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=18&lat=55.4652&lon=-4.6237&layers=54), and the later 25" OS (1892-1905) plan indicate that the bulk of this earlier housing was tenement property.
These buildings, often two storey with four separate flats, and sometimes as high as four storeys with twelve or more separate dwellings, depending on demand, available funding and/or local authority byelaws.  Adjacent, contiguous buildings were frequently funded and built by different developers, and often the buildings were named after their respective developers, eg Nelsons Land, Stewarts Land etc.
If the ground required for the modern housing was compulsorily purchased by the Local Authority (Ayr Burgh, latterly Kyle and Carrick District Council, or South Ayrshire Council), records of the purchases and former ownerships may exist in South Ayrshire Council files or Archives.

It was in fact Nelsons Lane or Lone,it was part of Wallacetown,which until the late 1900's early 20th century was in the Parish of St Quivox,I live next to Nelson Place which is 70's type flats,don't think they were named after anyone named Nelson locally,as the area had and still has,albeit newer properties a Nelson Place,Duke Terrace,Princes Court suggests the original homes were named after Royalty and perhaps Lord Nelson.
