Looking for Welch second cousins
« on: Thursday 05 November 15 12:05 GMT (UK) »
I know that one can't mention living people and I don't know if the two sons of Walter H Welch b 1914 and Hilda Maud Sweeting b 1917, married Luton 1940, are still living. One, J,  was born 1943 and the other, D R was born in 1946 and they both married, one in the same year and quarter as me in 1964, and the other in 1988. I am a Sweeting relative, trying to track down "cousins." If anyone can put me in touch with them or one of their children, I should be very grateful.

RootsChat is meant for finding ancestors, rather than missing friends or relatives.

People will be able to give you general tips and hints how to proceed, but not any concrete details and you will also find more tips here:

Topic: Tracing Living Relatives

and
Topic: Searching for living relatives and Rootschat

One of the people you are looking for has the more unusal name and can be found on the electoral registers here

http://www.searchelectoralroll.co.uk/Electoral_Roll_Search.asp

A carefully worded letter would be the way forward if you are trying to reconnect with them.

The other person, with 2 fornames, may have rmarried in 1975. If you make contact with the first one, they might be able to confirm an address for the other, but the other names can also be found on the free site I've listed.

Once you think you've found them on the free search site, you can always send me a pm to see if we've found the same people.

You won't know if these are the correct marriages unless you purchase the marriage certs from the GRO so unless verified I would urge caution when writing.

Have you found any other cousins, and asked if they have kept in touch with your missing ones?

Have you looked on any other genealogy sites with family trees, to see if they have put themselves on there - e.g. genes?

Added:
There is a Welch born in 1946 in Luton in a tree on genes.

We are a very unprolific family! Single children of single children, unmarried or childless, or emigrated and enlightened by myself to "lost heritage" when I found them. The one branch, the only one that had 10 children, did not need to stay in touch with the distant or elderly older generation - too busy keeping up with each other, I should think. I did manage to get a photo of one "lost" 2nd cousin that way but I had no other options left.
I subscribe to several genealogy sites and pursue them all before turning to Rootschatters who may have possible local knowledge. That's my final resort. I do it to share parts of their family history that have come down to me in the proverbial shoe box, and to see what may be in theirs.

So have you used GenesReunited to try to contact that member who appears to have the 1946 Luton cousin in their tree?

I have been unable to find the Welch you refer to, in Luton 1946. I'll try again,

I have sent messages to both owners of Welches born in Luton in 1946, on Genes R although I don't hold out much hope. The name is very common in Luton. If I get a reply to my 2 letters sent to 2 appropriately named Welches last week, I'll post.
"Looking for You" site was a good suggestion, thank senders for that.
