Boxer Rebellion China Records

My great-great-uncle was in the Royal Navy in 1900 and was sent to China in the Boxer Rebellion.  He was on a ship called HMS Marathon then transferred to HMS Duke of Wellington in 1902. I have his name as being landed in China but I don't know where. Does anybody have any more details about what took place and what he was likely to have been involved in?  His name was William McMullan b. 1869.
