Pte William Black
« on: Wednesday 11 November 15 15:39 GMT (UK) »
Today, November 11th at 11am there was a service of re-dedication of Eckford War Memorial in the Scottish Borders as the names of the six local men who died in WW2 have now been engraved on the memorial stone. However, I was told that a local man died in the Korean War so I have to find his details and have his name added. He was William Black and served in the Black Watch. There is only one William Black in the Black Watch listed as killed in Korea so this must surely be him, but I need to check that he came from Cessford in the Scottish Borders. He was born 5.6.1933 and died in Korea 4.11.1952. I'd be most grateful if somebody could confirm that I've got the right man! Then his name can be added to the memorial.

Hi ,

Cessford is in the Parish of Eckford in Roxburghshire -
http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/21368

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ does have a birth for a William Black 1933 Eckford Roxburgh.

You would need to order the birth certificate to see if it matches the information you have.

I'll move this to the Roxburghshire board to see if anyone else can help.

Hello Ev - thank you for a prompt reply. Yes, I'm sure now that this is the William Black I'm looking for. I don't want to add the name to the memorial then find I've got the wrong man!
