My great grandparents were Corneilius O'Driscoll and Mary Salmon.  in the irish census 1901 and 1911, Corneilius was born in co. Kildare and Mary in Dublin.  in 1911, they have had 5 children (I have found one baptism and four civil registrations, all for Dublin and mothers maiden name Salmon).  They had apparently been married for 14 years.  They were Roman Catholic.  The ages in 1911 given were completely off, but by 1901 census  Mary was born in 1871 and Corneilius was born in 1874.

I cannot find any marriage in Ireland around 1897 (give or take 5 years either side) for O'Driscoll/Salmon (name variations considered).

Somebody found a possible marriage in Preston, Lancashire, so I ordered the certificate, so now I'd like to be able to either link it to my family or disregard it!

The information on the marriage cert is as follows

27 May 1897 at St Josephs Church (Skeffington road?), Preston. Corneilius Driscoll, age 23, Bachelor, Farm Labourer, Lived at Thorn Tree Farm, Cottam, Farm Labourer, Dad is Timothy Driscoll, deceased, Farm Labourer.
Mary Salmon, 24, Spinster, Domestic Servant, 7 Samuel Street, Preston, James Salmon, Market Gardener.

Roman Catholic

Witnesses Francis Murray and Catherine Salmon.

The ages are almost correct, they are marrying in a Roman Catholic church, the names and year are correct... how else can I prove this is my family?

First daughter, Mary Ann O'Driscoll was born and baptised in Dublin, 1898.

Her age in 1911 would make it impossible for Mary to be the mother of any of the children

Very poor quality image but ages are 39 for Cornelius and 40 for Mary - I have notified an amendment

No 1901 English census entry for them.  Given the combination of surnames I would say it's the right marriage - though why in Preston heaven knows as they clearly returned to Ireland very quickly

I just need to figure out why they were in England.  I can't find them on English census in 1901/1911 pr unmarried in 1891.  I can't find a matching James Salmon or Timothy Driscoll in 1891 or James Salmon in 1901/1911 in England or Ireland that fits.  Hace tried newspapers

There are a couple of births on Familysearch (another next page)Think there is a Newpark in Kildare
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPTJ-K8W
There is a British Army Service record for a Cornelius Driscoll born c 1873 Kildare, farm labbourer
Attested and discharged same year 1892 not deemed fit for duty.
Next of Kin given as Daniel Driscoll, Johns Town, Kings Co.
No other relevant info, but of course could not be your man.

Next of Kin could be a brother though, couldn't it, if Timothy had died?
