Ann Thomson and John Mason - marriage?
« on: Saturday 21 November 15 15:20 GMT (UK) »
Ive been trying all sorts of combinations in Scotland people to find the marriage details of Ann and John Mason, which must have taken place in the 1840's.  The Census has them together in 1851 and their first son, John born at Parkhead, Glasgow in 1849.  I cant find any certificate for young John's birth and no sign of Ann's birth details either, although her Death Certificate indicates she was born to Archibald Thomson and Mary Lorimer.  Anything anyone can do to fill in some of these gaps would be very helpful.

Have you checked for John under Ann's surname?  It could be she wasn't married at the time of his birth and as you can't find a marriage maybe they weren't married either.

How old were the parents in 1851 and have you got Ann with those parents in 1841?

Thanks Millipede - yes, I found them in Lanarkshire in the 1841 Census and a brother of Ann (William) who was five years older).  Ive tried under Ann's surname too.

Ive discovered that both Archibald and Mary were born in Ireland and were probably married there. I still cant find anything in the way of birth details about the kids though.

According to Familysearch John Mason and Ann Thomson had a daughter Mary in 1855 ( who probably died before 1861). The 1855 birth cert should tell you loads about John and Ann including where and when  they were born and where and when they were married and also how many other children they have ( both living and deceased). You can view the birth cert on Scotlandspeople.

Thanks Isobel

They had three children, John, Mary and James.  The latter is my grandfather, who tied in the early 30's. I have a bit about Archibald, but Ann is a bit of a mystery - especially since she died in rather suspicious circumstances. I'm not sure if and when she married Archibald and, as i say, there is no birth record for John that i can find.

Did they have any children in the 1860s?

After 1862, birth certificates state date and place of parents marriage
