ScotlandsPeople - a quick question please
« on: Sunday 06 December 15 18:50 GMT (UK) »
Don't think I've seen the answer to this anywhere, but apologies if it exists:
When you go to buy more credits it gives you the option to use a voucher code. Is it actually possible to buy gift vouchers for the site? They would make handy Christmas presents!

Not used a voucher but it could be what you would purchase from the Library as credits which works out cheaper?

Watch the library ones, especially the conditions of the "Top-Up Vouchers".

"Starter vouchers £7.00 for 60 credits (normally £7 for 30 credits)

Top-up vouchers £5.60 for 30 credits  (20% discount)

Please note: Top up vouchers purchased through our libraries are only valid for use with accounts created using a starter voucher purchased through the same scheme. They cannot be used to top up existing accounts. Existing account holders may purchase start-up vouchers to open an new account but should be aware that it is not possible to link accounts."

It's worth checking before you buy.

One other use for the voucher code box on SP is when SP run certain promotions which result in a voucher code that you input in that box and...shockingly...get a certain number of credits to use for free  :D

Thanks both. I don't live in Scotland so am unlikely to be getting any library offers. Ah well, never mind.

Not sure where you would get the vouchers outwith Scotland other than some libraries, but some local Family History Societies in Scotland do sell them - The Borders Family History Society do sell them

Hi Stuart,

Just went into Scotlands People to check this out as I use the site a lot myself.

If you go to "buy more credits" and click this and then on the ? for vouchers what is this it brings up explanation for buying them for presents etc. You can then download a form to buy vouchers and they will be posted out to you. They evidently work a bit like a scratch card and there is a number which you have to enter to activate them.

Not used them myself but hope this helps you - it sound a great idea.
