As per my earlier reply; details of his RAF service, postings, courses taken/passed, etc. are still with MOD.

If you know his speciality (ground crew/air crew etc.) you might find an archivist for that particular section, who might have group photographs.

His service record will confirm postings and dates; using those details you can then look for any archivists. (I managed to find one for the squadron where my late uncle served).

This may help you with where to look for his records

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/royal-air-force-personnel/

3.2 Airmen (not officers) after 1939

Records of RAF airmen who served after 1939, and of men whose service numbers were above 562875 are still with the RAF. Look on the GOV.UK website to find out how to obtain service records.

It can be useful to know his service number. If you do not know his number, browse through the name indexes in AIR 78 to find it.

Doesn't that link take you to the National Archives site? It won't show you anything about him, just how to apply for records. As Nanny Jan said recordsfrom WW2 are not on line.

Try this. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records

I think it costs £30 though.

I would think the chances of that are very slim unless you could find someone who served in the same unit.
