Parents/Baptism/Marriage of Anne Granby born circa 1851.
« on: Tuesday 08 December 15 20:31 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Anne Granby, who first appears in the 1881 census in Wales as the wife of a Hugh Nolan, with two children,Elizabeth and Paul, given born Rhyl. Her surname is taken from the birth certificate of a later daughter,Ellen(..."Mother-Anne Nolan, formerly Granby...")
In some censuses she is given as born Wicklow with varying ages, but at death she is given as 1851-1900.
Hugh Nolan is usually given as born Carlow, again with varying ages, but at death given 1853-1923.

I can find few references to Granbys in Wicklow
Thomas Granby in Griffiths Valuation
John Granby marriage 1847 in Shillelagh
Mary Granby(born circa 1854) in 1901 census.

I have tried Church and Civil records on IrishGenealogy and also baptismal and marriage records on RootsIreland plus UK records with no success.

Regards
Roger

registers.nli.ie     IF they were RC?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

Thanks,Hallmark.I'm fairly sure the Nolan line were RC.I'll see if I can find the appropriate parish for a search.

I'll look for a marriage first on the basis that there are probably less of them than baptisms(!) and the year is hopefully close to the birth of the first known child.

There is only one Granby in Wicklow in Griffiths Valuation
Thomas in Money Upper
Print date 1853

Could be a starting point.

Sorry just noticed you already have that, in any case the RC parish for Money Upper is Clonmore but I haven't found any Granby there yet.

I can find two reasonable candidates for Hugh Nolan, based on date and family Christian names, both baptised 1852.
The first is from Fenagh,Bagdenalstown
The second is from Coneberry(?),Ballon

These are both reasonably in the locality of the Thomas Granby(Money,Griffithgs Valuaton) and John Granby(Shillelagh, marriage civil record 1847) records, but that is as far as I get.
