William Bettens
« on: Sunday 13 December 15 19:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I've just started to research my family tree. The family name is Bettens.
I've got back to my great great great granddad but now have come to a bit of a standstill.
The information I have so far is that he married Thomasina Kitto on 5th April 1818 at Breage church but other than that I can find no other information.
Any guidance would be greatly received.
Regards
Lisa

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Just a couple of baptismal entries from Family Search

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NTX2-ZS4 (probably died - see next entry)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JWW2-D3X

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NYV9-77G

Not entirely certain about this next one - mother could be Tamsin

The only baptism I can see on Cornwall OPC Database is:

19th November 1752 at St Hilary.
William Bettens, son of John & Anne

But I think he might have been a bit old to marry in 1818?

Hi Lisa,

A very warm welcome to RootsChat!

Cornwall OPC Database has the marriage of William Bettens to Thomasin Kitto in 1818 here: http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=marriages&id=911964

It shows William's residence as Breage but Thomasina/Thomasin's as St Hilary. There is a witness name recorded also, he being George Hebbard.

Also on the Cornwall OPC Database are two baptisms for a Thomasina Kitto, both as Thomasin.

Here: http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=1589546
daughter of William & Mary Kitto in 1795.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

there was a marriage in Perranuthnoe 22 Sep 1783 of William Bettens & Grace Harvey. The couple had a daughter Anne baptised in the same parish in 1785 & a son John in 1793. In between, there's a baptism in Kenwyn 30 Dec 1787 transcribed as Betters of a William, son of William & Grace. No other records on the opc database for William Betters. Think it could be Bettens, attached below

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gnt/

Grace Bettens aged 75 was buried in St Hilary 18 Jan 1822, residence noted as St Erth.
