I've registered with SEAX as there are some wills I would like.

Does anyone know whether images I view while I have the subscription are still able to be viewed after the subscription expires (as with Findmypast or ScotlandsPeople) or are only able to be viewed while the subscription is valid (as with Ancestry)?

My computer is getting old and unreliable, so if I have to download I think I will wait until I get a new one.

No, you need to down load them, they are only available while your subscription is in force.

Thank you.

Can you confirm that a subscription would give me access to any digital wills and also digital images of parish registers?

Am I correct in thinking that the records of the Ingatestone Hall chapel are not digitised?

From my experience anything that has been digitsed by the Essex Records Office and appears in the online SEAX Essex Ancestors catalogue can be viewed with subs and the image downloaded to your computer.

If you have concerns about your computer as regards to it's "staying alive", you could always download images to a Flash Drive/Memory Stick or an external Hard Drive if you have one.

Don't forget that if you have a query about records on SEAX that can't be solved here you can send your query by email to the Essex Records Office, the staff are very obliging and reply quickly.

General enquiries: ero.enquiry@essex.gov.uk

Norfolk: Beale, Cork & Dalton.
Yorkshire: Oswald Sturdy birth/baptism c1708, Oswald where the devil are you?

My computer is getting old and unreliable, so if I have to download I think I will wait until I get a new one.

Whether you get a new computer or not you really should MUST have an external backup device, be it a high capacity USB memory stick, a USB hard drive or a network drive. All are relatively cheap and will protect your valuable photos, documents and music from the eventual inevitable failure of your computer's hard drive or a virus infection.

I took the plunge.

They don't appear to come in a readily downloadable form at all, so I have a list as long as my arm of image numbers and which film they're on and I will have to take out another sub sometime and try to work out a way of getting a useable image.  In the meantime I've made my own transcriptions.

However it has given me a lot to go on with and some new surnames that I didn't know were connected.  I love the marriages that have five witnesses!

It's a while since I last used SEAX but I think you just open the image onscreen, right-click on it and select 'Save As', then give it a suitable name and Save

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep, that's exactly how to do it. Unlike some of the other sites there is no download or save button.
