Uniform identification - it may be Canadian

Is anybody able to identify the uniform worn by this chap in WW2.

It may be Canadian.

I would say he's a Royal Marine.

An ex Canadian military chap on another forum reckons it's American.

Not the answers I was hoping for as it was always rumoured he was Canadian.

As I understand it, there was nothing to stop a Canadian citizen enlisting in the Royal Marines..
