Hi John,

I have been in touch with a lady who was an apprentice hairdresser for Alice Mary Griffin and she told me that Alice and her brother William travelled on cruises to visit an ex employee who they were great friends with and when Alice came back she used to bring presents back for all her staff(16) the seniors were given handbags and the next jewellry cases, scarfs, hankies etc.William owned John Halls the furniture store on St Peters Hill now Lloyds bank. They lived 34 Avenue Rd which is now Avenue Veternary Centre until later in life they moved to a flat opposite which had been built.
Hope this adds to your Griffin history.

Kathy

Hi, thank you very much for that, yes we do know quite a lot about them and not so much about William and his movement in the Freemasons, I have got some weird and strange stories but ask would you be interested in my email, it is actually my wife who is connected, Mary Ellen Wood & then Grand dad Joseph Wood. I did try and find some of the staff but without success, it would have been interesting to learn more. I do have a photo of the shop either being opened or re opened by Frankie Vaughan, we even have the B.E.Medal that bestowed to Ellen May..
If you want my email is johndom@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks again

John

Up-Date please, all of the above sailings were gratefully received, thanks, I think I must be having one of those grey haired moments, The first record I have is of William & Alice setting Sail, the record states, Round Cruise, is it possible for this to last almost 2years (10 days off) or did they come & go again, struggling to understand ! Also Alice arrives back from Hong Kong 29/11/1955, but can not see a single fare crossing Record from the UK for her anywhere ?
I am also missing a departure for William & Alice, I have William arriving back from Durban S.AFRICA 9/10/1959 & then the next record I have is William & Alice arriving back in the Uk from Durban S.AFRICA,. Would like their Departure,
William born 26/2/1905 Grantham Lincs, Alice Mary born 19/2/1900 Grantham
cheers
John

Hello Tup1, would you please ask next time you see the Apprentice Hairdresser, if she remembers someone called Winifred Faulkner or Leslie Faulkner, I noticed on one of the Passenger lists that there was another Grantham Couple possibly with the Griffins in the next seats/ boarding pass Numbers. A Bit of a coincidence if they were not together...

Thanks Kathy

Hi John,

I was in the library today and (a senior moment due to a cold !!!!!) I left my note book there so I cannot recall the dates of the journals but in 1950/51 Alice was giving talks to local community groups about her 2 trips to Norway??? which has not been mentioned in the cruises noted so far also I remember seeing in 1954?she was President of the Grantham Professional Women's Guild. When I get my note book back I will let you know the dates.
