Jack Goadby Armagh
« on: Monday 21 December 15 22:12 GMT (UK) »
Jack Goadby name is on St Marks Church of Ireland Armagh Roll of Honour of serving members in WW1.
I can find no details on census or service records. He could be Army Navy (Royal or Merchant) or Royal Air Force. Can any one help?
Many thanks Joe

He may have been John but known as Jack.  Have you tried Godby?

As his mother (or possibly step-mother?) seems to be the Armagh connection (thanks, gaffy, for posting the link so we don't waste time trying to find the same information) it's possible that his name was merely added to the Roll of Honour due to family connections rather than actually belonging to that church.

Hi,
I agree with Aghadowey. I have found this happening before. There is a name on Bovevagh Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour for a man who never lived in the area but his grandfather and two of his aunts did.

Church records are likely to yield little or no detail on this man. It is English records you need to check. From thread on that other forum-
Born June 1900 in Poole, Dorset.
Mother Emily R Goadby, Fairview Terrace(?), Newry Road, Armagh.
(On the census, his mother is Clara Ann, but she looks to have died in 1915)

Clara Goadby (nee Long), age 56, death registered Jan./Mar.1915 Portsmouth district
James F. Goadby marriage registered Jan./Mar.1917 Nottingham district to Emily Priestley
James F. Goadby, born Ashby De La Zouch, Leics.; was printer letterpress foreman in 1901; death registrered Apr./June 1936 Nottingham district
1939- Jack Goadby, born 1900, living Carlton Urban District, Nottinghamshire
