Hi Annie
I'm going on the 1891 census where Nellie and William appear along with their mother isobella and step father Arthur Maguire . I don't have a lot of info on them I think  William and nellie belong to my Whitecross family my grandfather was born in the same house in dalfield walk that the Maguire family lived according to the cenus in 1891 my grandfathers middle name was Maguire so I think they are connected

Thanks

G, have you viewed the marriage cert for Isabella Whitecross and Arthur McGuire to at least confirm her parents' details. Potentially in the St Clements Dundee census in 1881, her parents Peter, a butcher, and Christina Whitecross? The birth for a William Whitecross showed in 1882 in St Clements...

Hi Monica
I assumed whitecriss was isobelle's married name from her first marriage because her children's surnames are Whitecross perhaps they were illegitimate .

Thanks

Hi G,

As Monica is "offline" I will endeavour to answer your question.

Monica would have done as I would....checked the Index which is free with knowledge of where to look i.e. not the original image which would need to be downloaded as www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is a fee paying site (pay-per-view) & £7 minimum for 30 credits whereby you join free & pay by debit/credit.
There is no other site which would have those details.

However with the info. given by Monica, you can download from the site for 6 credits...a total of £1.38 which will give you Father's name, Mother's maiden name, place of William's birth, date & place  of parents marriage (if they were married)?

If unmarried, it is still possible that the father was present & signed.

This looks to be a likely 1901 census entry from what has been mentioned:

Arthur Maguire 37 Foundry Machine Worker b. Dundee
Isabella Maguire 39 b. England
Wm Whitecross 19 stepchild b. Dundee
Nellie Whitecross 16 stepchild b. Dundee
Wm Maguire 11 son b. Dundee
Robert Maguire 6
Grace Maguire 6
Lizzie Maguire 5
Amy Maguire 2
Andrew Milne 27
Wm Cartwright 20

Address: 17 Dallfield Walk, Dundee/ St Clement

Possible marriage for Arthur and Isabella in St Clement, Dundee 1894.

1891 has a possible for Isabella. Can only see her on the transcript. Isabella Whitecross b. London aged 28, Jute Warper. Living in 96 Overgate, Dundee.

From this, for 1881, possible entry for this Isabella with her Aunt and Uncle:

William Carnegie 38 Riveter In Boat Yard b. Aberdeen
Helen Carnegie 31 b. Aberdeen
Isabella Whitecross 17 flax spinner b. England
Address: 37 Polepark Road, Liff and Benvie, Angus

Original images from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk would really help you at this point  :)

The marriage for Arthur and Isabella will also help in confirming if this old post for an Arthur is the same person www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=484333.0
