PB?
« on: Sunday 27 December 15 22:46 GMT (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters

I'm using my copy of parish records for Hagbourne, from the "Wallingford Registration District Vol. 2" CD, produced by the Oxfordshire Family History Society.

Quite a few of the baptisms have the term "PB" or "PB dead" or "PB died" next to them.  Could anyone explain what PB might mean please?

thanks!

KN

Probably "privately baptised" meaning the child was baptised at home. Often practiced when a child was sickly and considered likely to die, but not always,

Thanks very much Steve, seems like a highly probable answer!

Agreed, PB means private baptism.  It doesn't necessarily mean the child died soon after, I've found plenty who lived to a ripe old age!
