Joseph Simmons/Simmonds and Susannah Thornton
« on: Tuesday 05 January 16 11:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following at all?

I have a Joseph Simmonds marrying Susannah Thornton on May 2nd 1748 at Westminster. I believe this was a clandestine marriage?
Joseph and Susannah had the following children all baptised at St Leonards, Shoreditch, London:

Lucy 1749, Lydia 1750, Susannah 1752, Joseph 1752 and Charles 1754.

Susannah Simmons married John Howitt on 22nd February 1783 at Spitalfields, Christ Church, Stepney, and had issue.

I believe Joseph Simmonds who married Susannah Thornton may be connected to the following family (but have yet to prove it!).

A Thomas Simons married a Lydia La Serrurier on August 3rd 1699 at St James, Dukes Place, London. Thomas' age given as being born around 1676.

Lydia La Serrurier was baptised as Lidie La Serrurier on April 25th 1674 at Waals Hervomde Kerk, Amsterdam, Netherlands, daughter of a Pierre La Serrurier and his wife Marie Leger or Heger.

Thomas and Lydia had the following issue what I know of:

John Simons, baptised 27th May 1697 St Giles, Cripplegate (born before marriage?)

Lydia Simons born April 27th, baptised 24th May 1700 Bull End Lane Independent, Stepney

Peter Simons born and baptised 28th September 1702 Bull End Lane Independent, Stepney

Samuel Simons baptised 24th September 1703 Bull End Lane Independent, Stepney

Phoebe Simons baptised 21st August 1704, Stepney

Josiah Simons born and baptised 14th December 1707 Old Gravel Lane, Stepney

Merrill Simons baptised 14th April 1709, Stepney

Nevill Simons born 19th May, baptised 19th June 1709, Old Gravel Lane, Stepney

James Simons born and baptised 18th January 1710, Old Gravel Lane, Stepney

Daniel Simons baptised 1 August 1713, Stepney

If anyone can help with a connection to Joseph Simons/Simmonds and Thomas and Lydia, or if they can help with the parentage of Susannah Thornton I would be most grateful!

Happy New Year to all. :)

Hi
Yes it was a clandestine marriage. The only extra detail is that Joseph is a fanstick maker.
Possible burials
Susannah Simmonds age 65 asthma Workhouse St Mary Whitechapel Feb 1793
Joseph Simmonds 21.11.1771 MEOT at Stepney.
A possible baptism for Joseph 15.9.1726 at Stepney son of Josh and Jane.
This could be Josiah born 1707 Gravel Lane
