Gwynne,

I also have (from censuses 1851 and 1861) a Charles Gwynn(e), son of Charles & Ann, born c1842?
Other siblings match the christenings you gave (and that I already had!)

I just don't have a christening for him!

As for Charles, born 1790 . . .

1841 census, aged 50 a Basketmaker (Class: HO107; Piece: 923; Book: 1; Folio: 27; Page: 46)
1851 census, aged 61 a Cooper (HO107, 1986, 209, 1)
Died December qtr 1867, aged 78 (from FreeBMD)

So the christening of a Charles in 1800 is a little confusing?

I am left thinking that there were 2 couples called Charles & Hannah Gwyn, baptising children in the 1790's and early 1800's?

The Charles Gwynn(e) born 1800 turns up in London as a tailor, married to Eliza (a London girl) on the 1851 census. HO107/1511/218/15.

The family I am chasing is the Charles born 1790.
His son Charles (b1842) married Rhosann/Rosanna Jones in June qtr 1861.
They had a son, Isaac in Bridgnorth, then moved to Kidderminster, then Wednesbury, and finally Oldbury(Worcestershire).
Another son, Charles, was born 1866 in Oldbury.
He married in Grantham (Lincolnshire), after which the family moved to Oldham (Lancashire), where they remained until 1976.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hi,

The more one looks at this, the more confusing it becomes.

With at least four Charles GWYNN in this family, it seems you will need to carry out a full, detailed methodical search of the birth, marriage and burial records for this family.

I can't see a Christening.

I note that a Charles & Hannah GWYN buried a son Charles on 17th Oct 1790.
If that was the Charles Christened 30th Jan 1790, he didn't marry Ann PROSSER in 1821.

Interesting that the June qtr 1861 marriage of Charles GWYNN to Rosanna JONES was not in the Church of England but "Bridgnorth Register Office or Registrar Attended". If Catholic, that Register may provide very useful information.

Despite having such a large extended family in Bridgnorth, is it strange that Charles & Rosanna were in the Workhouse when their son Isaac was Christened.

Gwynne Chadwick (with no connection to the GWYNN family)
