My grandfather was with 4th extra reserve battalion according to forceswarecords...i looked them up and  the 4th were only in england and ireland durn the war.. my grandfather went to france on feb 2 1915 so i take it this meens he was a replacement draft ? He dislocated his left ankle on april26th 1915 from what ive heard he was very lucky as the 2nd battalion were all but wiped out a few wks later ..

The three Special Reserve battalions of the RDF - 3rd, 4th and 5th battalions - replaced the Kildare, Dublin City and Dublin County Militia in 1908. You are correct they would have supplied reinforcements to other battalions serving overseas.

The War Diary of the 2nd Battalion should say if a draft arrived in February 1915 - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352152

You should check this link first, to see if other battalions were in France in February 1915 - http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-british-infantry-regiments-of-1914-1918/royal-dublin-fusiliers/

I presume you got the date he entered a theatre of war from his medal card. He probably crossed at night and the date will be when his ship left. The Channel was a war zone.
