Jonn, your mention of Emily. She too obviously looks to have been an industrious shop keeper!

Davie, those are nice recollections. Always help in adding the colour and background to these people's lives don't they.

Here is the family 1861.
Prestonpans, East Lothian,

Address, Prestonpans,

John Bachanan, Head, M. age 37. M. Fisherman, born, East Loathian, Cockenzie,
Emily Bachanan, Wife, M. age 45 years, F. born East Lothian, Cockenzie,
James Bachanan, Son, U. age 16 years, M. Potter, born East Lothian, Prestonpans,
Daniel Bachanan, Son, U. age 13 years, M. Potter, born East Lothian, Prestonpans.

This is a transcription from Freecen, however the surname has the same spelling  of Bachanan, on Scotlandspeople.

Regards,
Jonn.

I got a reply back from Zen this afternoon.
Thank you for your enquiry.  Apologies for the delay as I have been off ill for some time.
I work in Rutherglen Heritage centre, here in Rutherglen Library.
So far I haven't got anything in our Rutherglen Shops folder on the two shops.
However I will try all of our archives for any reference and get back to you.  Also I run a weekly group, so I will ask the 'Ruglonians' there if anyone recalls the name or shops. I will be in touch next week with any results.
Many thanks,
Snadon Clackmannan/Alloa, Sim/Syme Kilsyth, Davies Kirknewton, Mowbray Colinton/Kirknewton, Shaw Kilsyth, Allan Lasswade/Penicuik, Mullin Waterford, Kirkwood Kilsyth, Laird Denny, Haggart Blackfriars Lanarkshire, Bell Dalmeny, Willets Worcestershire, Cleland Kilsyth.
