Thank you so much for the info.

On the enlistment papers James Sullivan  listed  his parents as living there in 1894. I guess they could have been there in 1894 & moved before 1901.   Is there any way of finding this out?

There are a couple of entries on the electoral registers for 34 Giffen St in the 1890s, but as often as not, and particularly in 1894, there's no one listed at that address. There are Sullivans in the street at various points, but not sure if they are in anyway related

1899 - Michael Cremer
1900 - Thomas Forster

James enlisted Jan. 1894 and gave his parents as

Michael,  Kate  maybe Catherine, Brother Michael

This is the earlier thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=290573.0

Just avoids people having to search back after Keyboard's post.  :)

I have had a look at James Sullivan's 1894-1910 army record (Royal Artillery, service number 1890) and it does record that his father Michael and mother Kate were residing at 34 Giffen Street, Deptford (when is not clear: presumably at the time of attestation 1893/4) and that he had an elder brother Michael who was a seaman on the Nova Scotian.

His WW1 service record (James Sullivan  number 85882) records that he was married in November 1903 (to Ellen Cutler) as George Albert Sullivan.
