Looking for Anna Murphy
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 13:09 GMT (UK) »
I received such quick, helpful and relevant response to my request last week, that I would like to submit one more "brick wall" I have encountered.

According to a photocopy of the marriage record:
On 19 January 1922, William Duffin (age 61, widower, labourer, Little Graigue, Templetown, son of Frank Duffin), marries in the RC Church of Ramsgrange in the Registrar's District of Ferhard No. 2 in the Union of New Ross, in Co. Wexford:
Anna Murphy (age 32, spinster, servant, Kilbride, Duncannon, daughter of Thomas Murphy).
Anna signs "Annie Murphy". Witnesses are James Shea and Bridget Kinsella.

I am unable to find the birth date and place (and mother's name) of this Anna Murphy. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nicolaas

This might be her in the 1911 census.
Approximately correct age, right occupation, and close to Duncannon.

to consider

Anna MURPHY would have given the address at which she was residing at the time of her marriage and she could have been from any county

Anna/Annie could also be a derivative of Anastasia or another name e.g. Mary Anne

If you search for an ANN* on the 1901 census aged 11 +/- 5 years there are 517 results; with patience you can see how many have a father named Thomas  ;) however she may not have been living at home which makes searching very difficult

Wexflyer's suggestion is a good one but you would need more to prove a connection

Did William and Annie have children? can you see who was shown as sponsors to them? this could locate a brother or sister for reference purposes

The suggestion by "Wexflyer" seems to fit, but I am uncertain how I can proceed to prove this is the right Anne Murphy and find her parents.

"myluck"s questions: The couple William Duffin/Anne Murphy had three children:
William Thomas Duffin, born 23-10-1922 New Ross, Co. Wexford, died 16-05-1935;
James Duffin, born 03-02-1924 New Ross, married 30-10-1942 Margaret Moran;
Thomas Duffin, born 19-06-1926 New Ross, died 03-07-2011.

I do not have their baptisms, and therefore do not know the names of the sponsors.

(William Duffin had 9 children from his first marriage, to Margaret Parle. I have their data.)

This is a long shot but could be worth the time and investment

If the Bridget KINSELLA a witness at the marriage was a married sister to Anna...

When you search for marriages of Bridget MURPHY between 1911 and 1922
and then use [ctrl]&[F] to find another name, in this case KINSELLA
there are only two matches - LINK

to Joseph KINSELLA on Jun 25 1918 Baltinglass - LINK
which could be Anna's sister

and to John KINSELLA on Nov 20 1918 Carlow - LINK
a longer shot!

In this hobby you have to think of everything! either to rule in or out!

Another source of information is looking at who lived close by
1911 being 11 years before there marriage much may have changed but equally it may not

Another marriage of interest is that of
Patrick MURPHY and Bridget KEATING LINK
This is them LINK living at #4 Graigue Little when the DUFFINs were at #10

As MURPHY is a common name there may be no link but it may be that Patrick was Anna's brother and there is a Patrick MURPHY aged 22 in Templetown in 1901 - LINK

Thank you for your help. However, the number of Bridget Murphy's and of Patrick Murphy's with Thomas Murphy as father in Co. Wexford is too large to investigate them all, with the limited access to genelogical databases I have here (I am doing my research from home, in The Netherlands.)
