Hi all, I am a beginner so apologize if I make a mistake.
I have found family in the USA and history of their grandfather, Henry Maher. He travelled between Michigan and Canada between 1905 and 1935. I have found a record that a Henry Maher was deported in 1935 as a "lunatic" back to the family home in Mylne Street, Islington, London. He doesn't show up on any of the electoral registers th rest of the family do appear. From memory if you are classed as a lunatic you can't vote so he wouldn't show up anyway. There is also a death record for a Henry Maher in Islington, London in 1943.
The family insist that after Henry's divorce in 1937 he went to live in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan where he died on 8th May 1939. I can't find any information about the death but when I searched newspapers a Henry Maher popped up with the date..now that I am on a free trail there is no such report. I'm quite frustrated because the family are annoyed with me for suggesting that he was deported as a lunatic despite explaining it could mean anything.
I really would like either someone who knows the cemetery in Grand Rapids to perhaps see what the details on the gravestone are or perhaps someone who knows how to find out the birth date of the Henry Maher who died in Grand Rapids on 8th May 1939. The family don't know if it's the right Henry Maher and are not really helpful.
Thank you in advance for any help I get!!!
