My great Grandfather was a convict from Ireland
I am seeking any information about his family in Ireland before he arrived in Australia in 1835.
Henderson Alexander Moffatt  Margaret Ellen Bennett married October 4 1915
McCann John Walker Married Mary Keane  Australia 1862

William Gibbs Married Harriet Lacey 1833

Hi Bikerman,
You perhaps know the name of the parents of John Walker McCann from your research in Australia.

If you do, it would be a help to those trying to assist as there may be a few men of the same name.

There was a John Walker McCANN who was born in 1835, tried in Manchester and arrived in WA in 1858.  Is he the one?

His records show he was a Deserter with a few aliases & prior convictions.
Father is recorded as Francis McCann & his mother Ann.
Have you actually read all the records online? There are several including these:

How do you know he was from Ireland?
Have you searched for any military records?
Do you have a copy of his 1862 marriage certificate to Mary KEANE indexed as REANE?

Hi
By private message, Bikerman has let me know that he does not know the parents of his great grandfather, John Walker McCann, but believes he was born in Ireland and arrived in Australia in 1835.

Bikerman, how do you "know" this?

Is it a family story? Or do you have other sources of information?

Is it possible there has been confusion with dates ?

Best to post details and information on the thread rather than sending information by PM where everyone can't see what is said (unless the details are recent, confidential, pertain to living people, etc.)
