Where did John Boundy Chapple disappear?
« on: Monday 22 February 16 01:48 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying for sometime to locate John Boundy Chapple, born 1868, Houghton Le Spring, Durham, England.  He was the son of Richard Chapple & Sarah Boundy.  John married Eliza A. Plummer in 1890, District of Bootle, Cumberland.  Several of their children were born in Cumberland, the last in Lancashire.  John with his wife appear in the 1891 census living at 73 Albert St., Millom.  In the 1901 census with his family at Civil Parish: Longbenton, County: Northumberland.
After that he disappears.  In the 1911 census his wife and several children are living at 53 Steel Street Askam In Furness Lancashire.  His wife (Annie) is listed as married.
I have not been able to find Johns death anywhere, so any help would be great.

Christine

One of John's sons William C Chapple enlisted on 6th March 1911, No. 1478 Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regt.

On his records it has next of kin as his father named John Chapple, 58 Steel St, Askham in Furness, this is crossed out and then says NOK mother Mrs Chapple.

William is discharged from the army in March 1916, so maybe John dies sometime between 1911 and 1916 :-\

Narrowing down dates even more :-\

another son of John's: John Albert Chapples enlisted in 1914, No:1879, he was wounded in action. His records show next of kin as mother: Annie Chapples, 53 Steel St, Askham in Furness.

So possibly down to a three year window of what happened to John snr. 1911-1914 :)

Thank you to all of you for your help.  He was born John Boundy Chapple (April quarter of 1868 at Houghton Le Spring). I am wondering if he is the John Chapple that returned from Boston to Liverpool in 1910 occupation given as stone cutter.  In the 1901 census his occupation was given as stone mason, (although it wasn't clear).
The death of John in 1924 with age listed as 56 makes his birth date as 1868 which is spot on.
Thank you all of you.  I now have some more information to verify that will hopefully find John home.
As well thanks for the information on his two sons.  I had regiments but not much else.
Christine.
