Downloading from Ancestry - Blank document what did I do wrong ?
« on: Monday 22 February 16 17:52 GMT (UK) »
 :) Hi,
Took the free access to Ancestry this weekend--AND I BELIEVE  I found my Alexander Robinson-  WORLD WAR 1   record,---sooo excited,it did not allow me to print docs but said download, which I did.
Now I have downloads that have NOTHING in them.(just blank screen) :o

Is this deliberate-or did I screw up?
I stupidly did not make many notes-as I thought the docs would be there for me to continue my research.
So more or less back to square one ::)

Would be interested to know if this has happened to anyone else.
Thanks

I also downloaded some documents, although I have no trouble seeing them. The fault could be at your end.

Hi Elsa

Mine are there as well. I know I DO have trouble when downloading. I usually get a message saying '' you don't have permission to view this '' etc and I download again and its there. I don't know why but its annoying enough that I check.

Is this similar or are they blank as blank can be?

aw hard luck Elsa!

I've stopped downloading images since the time I spent ages going through old films on familysearch.org and downloaded several pages of the parish records which I saved to my desktop.  When I eventually had time to view them not one of the images on my desktop was of the names I'd been looking at when I downloaded them.

I too took advantage of ancestry free offer this weekend and I saved images to my computer by using the control key plus "print screen" key.  Iusually use "Irfanview" and the images are acessible by clicking on the "File" tab then scrolling down and click on "Paste" - bingo - the image pops up and I can do what I want with it before Isave it.

 :)Thank you,
Good to know that it is not as straight forward as I thought,I did not realise that I would have to download something to open images-Duh!

When I view an Ancestry image and click on SAVE, it is saved as a .jpg file and viewable like any other JPEG image.

What system are you using? (eg: Windows 7, 10, XP, etc.)
Baskervill - Devon, Foss - Hants, Gentry - Essex, Metherell - Devon, Partridge - Essex/London, Press - Norfolk/London, Stone - Surrey/Sussex, Stuttle - Essex/London, Wheate - Middlesex/Essex/Coventry/Oxfordshire/Staffs, Gibson - Essex, Wyatt - Essex/Kent

How frustrating! What file type are the images saved as, I mean what suffix comes after the file names - is it .jpg, .pdf ...? I'm sure as mike175 says mine are automatically saved as .jpg.

Yes they are

Another thing I check is my download section. ie I download an image and it opens from the jpg. I also then check its lodged into my download file section. Maybe paranoid but I check :)
