Hi everyone,

Can anyone assist Dhiga with any information about John Tanner BAKER's life in New Zealand?

The topic linked above should be read first as it discusses his life in the UK and Australia and his military service.

Hi Dhiga,

In your topic linked above you mention that John Tanner BAKER was in New Zealand circa 1840's.

I believe John left England after 1839. He appeared to be in New Zealand soon after that. Early 1840's. In 1846 -1851 he appeared in Hawaii and after that in Australia 1854.

Can you tell us the source for that information, please?

Thanks Dhiga,

So prior to January 1846. Formal European colonization only began in 1840 and records are rather sparse from what I can find, but that is a help.
