Stellar Examples
« on: Wednesday 02 March 16 10:25 GMT (UK) »
Some time ago I posted a thread, slightly tongue-in-cheek but with a serious message, about how not to frame a query on RootsChat.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=682540.0

Since then I have seen some superb examples of well-framed queries, so I thought I'd start a thread to highlight them, thank the people who posted them, and maybe help others to improve the way they write their queries.

I'll start with http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=742804.0 which is a brilliant example. MansfieldTerrier has clearly set down everything (s)he knows about the person (s)he is looking for, and said what (s)he wants help with. Full marks, MT!  :)
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Another well-compiled query - the poster has clearly stated what information (s)he already has and what else (s)he has checked already.
