Looking for Blakes Gully and Blakes nest
« on: Sunday 06 March 16 20:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,
we are looking for Blakes Gully and Blakes nest in Hampshire possibly around the area of Wickham, Soberton, Bishop's Waltham areas possibly around 1900'ish Blakes nest might be the name of a house.
We know there is a Blakes Copse adjacent to the A32 just south of Wickham and a Blacknest Golf club at Frith end but of the Gully and Nest we have drawn a blank.
perhaps there is another pair of eyes or a brain that looks at things in a different way out there that might be able to give us a clue of the location.
Thank you for your time

further to the previous message the time period is around 1760 not 1900 and is connected to an inquiry in Parliament about William Inges  taking ownership of crown lands within the forest of Bere.
to which he was not entitled

Hi,

Just in case its relevant in 1827 the "Parliamentary Papers: 1780-1849, Volume 20" mention "Lands called Blakes Nest" Southampton.

I think that his reference to Blakes Gully in the "Journals of the House of Commons, Volume 47" in 1792 makes it sound like a place in the woods, but which woods :-\
