Think the best thing would be to get a copy of the marriage certificate for William and as Carole said if it shows his father's occupation as mason it will confirm if this is the right family ..

WHAT??

Looking to see if i could find John Collingwood in 1861 to see if Catherine is still with him i didn't and i stumbled across a marriage in 1850 John Collingwood to a Catherine Thomson! There's a death for John Collingwood in 1863 in Stockton so i think that's likely him! So possibly after he died she went back to her other name?
