Metropolitan Police Number
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 15:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi

My husband has an old Met Police epaulette amongst his late Mum's belongings - it bears the Met Police button and the numbers L135 - we do know there was a connection to the police but not sure which side of the family - either Wood or Skillen we think, is there anyway of tracing the officer via the police number.

Thanks

Paula

I can see newpaper references to a Constable 135 L in Lambeth  in the 1850-1855 period. The name is Lockyer.

Per the 1851 census this must be Thomas Lockyer, born Sandhurst, Kent circa 1823

I sent off for my OH's Paternal G/Grandfather's Metropolitan Police Pension Records a few years back. It makes fascinating reading, and had all sorts of personal info, - including the fact that he was 6' 6 and 3/4 inches tall! (I bet he didn't have to worry about having a 'commanding presence'.

Thanks very much - I'm not aware of Lockyer as part of the family but will research it more!
