You're right, it may be a co-incidence.  Things like this niggle away at me so I will have to research further and see what I can find.

The 1932 daughter is my mother, Maureen Mary McVady, b 7/9/32, d 3/8/17. What is your interest in the McVadys and Wakefields?

Lottie Wakefield is my 3rd cousin 1 removed (according to a research website which works out all these complicated things) and I was interested in her as part of my research into the much extended RADFORD line in Hucknall and Bulwell.
Lottie's mum Charlotte E SAYWELL  1882 - 1952 is my 2nd cousin x 2 removed.
Charlotte's mother was Ann Sarah RADFORD 1861 - 1885 my 1st cousin x3 removed.
Ann Sarah's parents were Thomas RADFORD 1834 - 1915  my 3rd great uncle. His wife was Charlotte SWINTON 1835 - 1907.

Interesting, I wonder how removed we are as cousins? My interest lies with my grandfather, John McVady. I am trying to find his birth certificate but am unsure of either his birthday or place of birth. Is this something you may have come across, even though I appreciate your interest lies on my grandmother’s side of the family?  I have a strong feeling that they weren’t married, but can’t be sure.

They are on an electoral roll at 9 Gainsborough Gardens in 1946, 47 and 48 as John James and Lottie McVady.

We are 4th cousins once removed J4759.   I'm still getting absolutely nowhere with this couple.  I've been searching again since you brought this thread to life.  I still can't find John (or John James) in the GRO or in 1911 and although I haven't found the marriage venue of Ernest W Brown to a Lottie Wakefield, I don't particularly want to buy the certificate as it is such a distant relation to me.

If - as is looking likely - Lottie and John did not marry, there has to be a reason which points to a spouse for one of the other still alive at the time.  If John was my grandad I'd just HAVE to know!!

Mcvady seems to be an Irish surname with most of them on the 1911 census living in Co Mayo.

Can't see him on the Irish or English one though.

That seems a possibility as it's certainly a name that could easily be miss-spelled.   I have often found birth dates to be way off the mark on 1939.

Hopefully my new cousin J4759 will see your reply too, thanks.
