Goodrich family Millers of Horringer/Horningsheath
« on: Saturday 19 March 16 23:45 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find ancestors and other relatives of Thamar Goodrich. She married William Cockrill, Miller of West Mill, BSE. (Recent posts on Rootschat)
I think her parents may have been John Goodrich and Rose Gardiner. Can anyone confirm and give dates and info about John's parents. I believe Thamar had the following siblings:-
John 1795-1877 who went to USA.
Maria Born abt 1798. I know nothing more.
Mary Born 1799 Married Henry Barkley Hayman a grocer from Surrey
Clement Born abt 1811. Married Sarah Baker. Miller at Hengrave water mill. I think he had 3 daughters Mary, Sarah and Rose as I have seen an article from 1885 in Bury & Norwich Post mentioning them at Hengrave Mill.
Brother I believe was Clement Baker Goodrich who may have been the Clement Baker who was the 1st miller at Pakenham Tower Mill.
Confirmation and extra info most welcome. Thanks

Thanks for all that Trish. It confirms what I was thinking and it looks likely that Clement Baker Goodrich was the miller at Pakenham . I could only find him as Clement, but Baker was his mother's maiden name. I had also found the marriage of John (Widower) to Rose Gardiner (S.W.) at Horringer but cant find a first marriage. There does seem to be a connection in their family to Stanningfield. I also came across a marriage for a Thomas Gardiner to a Frances Goodrich abt 1799 at Horringer. So possibly close family ties between the two families.

Our paths crossed so we are on the same path!

Back to that 1799 Marriage as Frances may be a Sibling of John.

Hopefully someone with access to actual Suffolk Parish Registers may be able to help you.

I am only working from what I can find on-line

Good luck,
Trish :)

That's absolutely brilliant (the info about Frances) as I gives me good leads to another line in the tree. Will now have to see if I can find any more Gardiner births. Have found 2, but about 13 years apart. I have only got archive.org for Horringer Baptism, burial and death records and the dates come up separately from the info.
Rose. Daughter of Thomas and Rose Gardiner. Abt 1729
Rebecca. Daughter of Thomas and Rose Gardiner. Abt 1742
Also found Death Clement Goodrich, Son of Mr Goodrich of Staningfield. Suffered from a coughing fit and fell down dead on his way to an auction at Melford!!
