Russia - how to find records

An ancestor of mine Mary Devany (nee Mary Squire Shipley) ended up living in Jaroslavl Russia - last heard of in 1922 as an old lady when she wrote to relatives in Nottingham. She had a daughter who married a Russian, probably in the late 1890s, by the  name of Astakoff. There were Astakoff children, Vladimir and Boris among them. Are there records of births, deaths, marriages, property (I have an address in Jaroslavl). How do you go about researching Russian records.
