HOWELL and ELLIS

I was wondering if anyone might please know more about a Thomas Howell born about 1830 Hull , he lived and had children to Elizabeth Smith/ Brown d/o Francis Brown and Rosetta Smith. I can find him on the census 1871 onwards and in the 1861 census him and his family are under the surname Ellis living in Ulceby . I found a newspaper report and a prison report for a Thomas Howell in 1851 for a robbery and violence along with a William Ellis and an Isaac Blaze. I've found a William James Ellis born 1814 Hull occupation brush maker living in Sheffield and Hunslet where he died in 1895 . I was wondering if Thomas Howell and William James Ellis may be related . Any help would be really great thank you.
