Findmypast has 'Scottish Births and Baptisms' which seems to be linked to Family Search.
There is a facility on this for entering parents names. But it is not the same as the Scottish Statutory Index.

There are millions of records of births from across Scotland between the years 1564 – 1950. These are not intended to be an exhaustive collection of births and baptisms. Some places are not covered and the date ranges vary from location to location.

The transcript refers to film numbers and batch numbers. Both these reference numbers refer to material held in the Family Research Library. Film numbers refer to individual microfilms, often containing copies of original documents held at a variety of repositories including courthouses, churches etc. Batch numbers refer to information grouped according to record type. Batch numbers can cover multiple Film numbers.

You can find out more about both batch and film numbers in the Family History Library Catalogue on the FamilySearch website (see useful links). Findmypast has a “People with the same last name on this search” function to find related records in the same batch and/ or film. This function can also uncover members of the same family in the same original source. It will sometimes uncover additional entries for the same person with slightly differing information.

Is it possible to include the mother's maiden name as well as the paternal surname for a birth search in Scotlands people?
Yes, but as mothers' maiden surnames were not included in the birth indexes until 1929, which is after the cut-off date for viewing births online, it won't do you any good. They are gradually adding mothers' maiden surnames to earlier birth records, but they have done only a few years so far.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Kooky originally posted this on the beginners board because she couldn't locate a general Scotland board, hence the reference to not being a beginner.

FamilySearch has an incomplete index to baptisms and banns before 1855, and an index to births from 1855 to 1874, plus 1881 and 1891. These indexes do include the mother's maiden name where this is in the records they have indexed, and very useful they are. I presume that FindMyPast is mirroring these indexes. However there are no complete indexes to births in any other years anywhere other than Scotland's People.

PS Access to these indexes is free on FamilySearch, but on payment of a subscription at FindMyPast.

Thank you all for your interest.
I have found one birth by isolating the area and choosing an entry with the same names as the paternal grandfather.
I am away for a few days now.

Sometimes you can reduce number of pages by reducing the locality parameters is chose 5 possible parishes instead of the whole county   presuming you.ve already reduced it to a county search .

1 parish isn't always enough as a birth can occur in neighbour parish d of where parents live

So mothers family's birth parish may be worth checking
