Reilly to Australia NOV 1863
« on: Saturday 09 April 16 07:24 BST (UK) »
I have traced my family tree (through the various web based ancestory tracking companies for which I subscribe to two of them, as well as an Irish based web site) back to arrival in Aus on 30Nov1863.
The whole family and possibly two siblings of Michael were on same ship. Commodore Perry
There are some census records in England that sought of line up, but no Marriage details, nor birth details etc of any further up the ancestoral tree. This is my next resort.
Details Michael Reilly B: 1824 County Mayo ( from death cert in Aus), Catherine (McDonnell) B: 1827, Thomas B: 1852, James B: 1853, Mary B:1855, Margaret B:1856, Bridie (Bridget) B: 1858, Catherine B:1858?, Betsy (Elisabeth) B: 1861. They had one daughter Sarah Jane in Aus in Victoria Mortlake B:1867.
Michaels Father according to his death cert. was Dennis and mothers last name was McCormack. Neither of these names get a response in other data bases.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome  :)

Where were the children born? You have mentioned England censuses which 'sort of line up'. Do you have any details. It would help to assist or eliminate the search.

Regards
Heywood

1881 census. Lines up with names and dates roughly.
Dennis (79) and his daughter Mary Ann (36) a nurse at Northumberland Mews

I thought you meant that Michael and family were in the English census?
Where do you have those places of birth?

Dennis in 1881 is from County Cork  :-\

No, I can't find anything up to the time they left England. The birth places are all from death certs or marriage certs here in Aus.

It seems unlikely that Margaret would be born in Liverpool as she is in the middle of the children.
Perhaps that is where they sailed from.
Ballinrobe seems the best bet to begin searching.
Have you looked at the Catholic Parish registers?
Ancestry has indexes and then the registers and they are also here but you have to just trawl through- writing isn't always very legible ::)
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1047
You then have the various possible spellings of Reilly to consider plus the bordering parishes.

Griffiths Valuation (abt mid 1850s) the family name in Ballinrobe parish http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/mayo/ballinrobe.htm
You mention possible siblings of Michael on the ship. What are their names?

Whilst searching re the ship's records, I came across a tree for this family. On Sarah's birth details, it states that Michael and Catherine were married in 1847 in Kilcommon parish.
There are two parishes in Mayo, I think, with this name.
Kilcommon Erris - records aren't available from the nli site.
Kilcommon and Robeen parish which adjoins Ballinrobe. The available records are scant for the periods you need but you could perhaps look there.

Thanks Heywood.
Looked through micro on NLI website. I found on film 04215/04 page 12 second last entry on bottom left shows 15May1852/3. Mar?? of Michl & Cete (Cate) ORiely   followed by another word then ann Stanton which I assume is the witness? Then "Glebe" which again is an assumption is a place? Dates don't match for Mary if compared to age on 25Aug1863 ship passenger register she is put down as age 9.
