Hi Anne,
There is nothing on-line for the 1857 Marriage other than what you have.

I read the 1861 Census as Thomas as being Married.

If I was you I would buy the 1857 Marriage Cert if you want to confirm their Fathers names etc.

Agree with Trish - if you are not happy to accept the 1857 marriage without further info, then best to buy the cert.

Or, alternatively or in addition, buy the birth cert for the 1859 Angelina to confirm parents names, mums maiden name and Dads occupation.

Personally I think the census info is convincing enough - they married in 1857, Angelina was born 1859, Thomas was in the army at the time of 1861 census. Sarah and young Angelina yet to be found, but my guess is that maybe she was in Ireland with rellies?
By Hannah's arrival in 1864 Thomas has left the forces and become a porter and they are settled in Nottingham

1861 census  Class: RG 9/435/60 p 23
Hampshire Farnborough
Farnborough District Regiment 45 North Camp Aldershot Page 23 of 41
Thomas Locke  is on page 22 of 41

There is an Angelina Eliza Lock, 4th down on the page. It says her age is 22 but the page has several errors and crossing outs. Worth a look I think especially as her birth place is listed as St Marys Nottingham.
The entry 3rd down is for a Sarah Ann McCarthy aged 2 also born St Marys, I am thinking mother and daughters ages and marital status could have been mixed. Angelina has Soldiers wife as relation and Sarah Ann has daughter.
As for the McCarthy- the soldier above in place 1 is John McCarthy his relationship as "father" has been crossed out and "soldier" added, his wife Elizabeth has relationship as "mother" crossed out and replaced with "wife". I think the enumerator was having a VERY bad day  :o

Wow Larkspur - I think you have sorted it!

Yes I agree with your observations, and that we have found Sarah and Angelina in 1861, making it finally all fit together!

Well Done indeed.

Hi,
Yes, Trish, that is the right family, from John and Amy Locke onwards.  By 1841 Thomas was away from home, presumably working.

Thank you, Larkspur, that’s fantastic.   :D

It seems to explain a lot.  Can you imagine being an enumerator in an Army barracks!  I assume that’s where the word barracking came from?

Anne :)

I still think you need the M/C for Sarah Ann Fathers name/occp.

Also its a bit confusing as on 1 Census Sarah Ann is born Dublin. Ireland, the others born Notts

This Census may be worth noting for future ref;

1841 Census
St Mary, Nottinghamshire
HO107/870/4/St Mary
Ann Taylor, 35,( cant make out occp)
Ann Taylor, 15, born France
R Taylor, 14, born in County
John Taylor, 11, born in County
Betsy Taylor, 3
SARAH Taylor, 1
Ann Snr/Betsy/Sarah born Foreign Parts or Scotland/Ireland*

Possible Marriage for Ann Jnr to Edward LEE 1849

1851 Census Ann LEE is born c 1827 France
